Help - Glock problem, or is it?

Can someone tell me if this is a problem or not? Any tips appreciated.

I have a brand new .45 Glock G21 SF (Short Frame).

It seems to operate just fine and I have been enjoying shooting it. When I do my part it shoots dead on target.

The other day a friend of mine pointed out something as a potential problem, and I'm uncertain about it. He took down the slide and noticed that the guide rod (with the captured spring) was not parallel to the barrel. In fact, the guide rod was not seated in the proper notch on the barrel, the rounded one. Instead it was seated one notch up from that making it not perfectly parallel to the slide.

Since he pointed this out, I have been paying attention to that and I don't understand what is going on. I can place the guide rod in the proper position, in the rounded notch on the barrel, and then replace the slide on the weapon, rack it one time only, then take down the slide and the guide rod is already in the notch above the one it should be resting in, so it is non-parallel to the slide.

As stated, the thing seems to operate just fine, but I'm a little concerned about this. My Glock G17 9mm does not have this behavior.

So, is this normal for a .45 G21? Do I need to have it looked at? What's the deal?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
gpond :rose:

Absolutely normal. My G17 does this as well. Just remember to push it in to the proper groove before assembling the slide on the frame.

Yeah it's normal. My 21 does it.

I know 3 other people that have glocks and its the same for them.

If the glock is shooting well, and has not exploded in your hand all is well.
( Joke )
Dont worry about the guide rod.
In fact, dont worry about taking the slide off any more.
With the priceof ammo these days, you are unlikely to need a thorough field stripping of your G21 again.

It's only function is to keep the spring straight. It's no biggie.

My 30 does it too BTW.

Heck - I think they all do.

that pistol will likely outlast you.
Most people will not own or shoot enough .45 ACP to wear out a glock.
( Unless you have the selfdestruct ( GRENADE) feature enabled)

My G34 9x19mm plastic guide rod always sits right where it should, in the lower notch, never moves out.. You can get replacement guide rods if it bothers you I guess, but I'm surprised to hear yours and others move around. A .45 is undergoing more shock and recoil.

My 30SF does the same thing. My 17 and 21 do not.
